Santiago Airport Restores Services After Temporary Suspension of Operations Due to “Severe Bird Activity”

On the afternoon of Sunday, April 20, 2025, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGAC) announced the temporary suspension of operations at Santiago Airport due to a “severe bird activity condition.” However, the situation was normalized within minutes.

Through a tweet, the agency reported the incident at Arturo Merino Benítez Airport, where air operations were temporarily suspended starting at 6:14 p.m.

The interruption occurred during the final hours of the long Easter weekend, which saw many Santiago residents traveling to other regions of the country.

At approximately 6:47 p.m., the DGAC provided an update: “We inform that Arturo Merino Benítez Airport has been operating normally since 6:44 p.m.”

This suspension adds to others reported during the third week of April, also due to the presence of birds in the area.
