Aerial logistics in pursuit of a sustainable future.

Sustainability in air cargo transportation has become a priority for the aviation industry, which aims to reduce its environmental impact and comply with international regulations designed to mitigate climate change.

As air traffic continues to grow, it is essential to implement effective measures to reduce carbon emissions and promote greener practices in the sector.

International Commitments and Regulations

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has set the goal of achieving net-zero CO₂ emissions by 2050, aligning with the Paris Agreement to limit global temperature rise to 1.5°C. This commitment requires a significant reduction in emissions amid increasing demand for air transport, presenting a considerable challenge for the industry.

To meet these objectives, various strategies have been implemented, including the adoption of Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAF), improvements in operational efficiency, and technological advancements in aircraft design. Additionally, programs such as the Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA) by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) aim to stabilize emissions at 2019 levels in the short and medium term.

Aviation industry faces an uncertain future due to the rivalry between two major manufacturers: Will it affect travelers?

Few industries were more affected by the pandemic than aviation, due to airport closures and travel restrictions that caused many airlines to go bankrupt, triggering a domino effect that also impacted manufacturers Airbus and Boeing.

The two giants of the aviation industry have had to navigate the obstacles left by the pandemic, as well as growing distrust due to an increasing number of aviation incidents related to the manufacturers.

The Airbus and Boeing rivalry shaping the future of aviation

Over the past decades, Airbus and Boeing have engaged in a fierce battle in the aviation world, transforming the industry forever.

Airbus, the European manufacturer, has fared better than its U.S. counterpart Boeing in terms of supply chain stability and customer trust.

For the American company, the crash of its B737Max model, which resulted in 350 fatalities, created distrust that directly impacted its production.

After participating in the international “Best Tourism Villages” contest organized by UN Tourism, the town of San Juan Bautista on Robinson Crusoe Island was selected for the “Upgrade” Program aimed at improving its competitiveness during the award ceremony held in Cartagena de Indias.

The “Best Tourism Villages” initiative is part of the UN Tourism Rural Development Program. The program strives to enhance development and inclusion in rural areas, combat depopulation, promote innovation and value chain integration through tourism, and encourage sustainable practices.

In its 2024 edition, the international organization received 260 applications, including 8 from our country. As a result, Ralco was recognized as a tourism village, while Choshuenco, Malalcahuello, and San Juan Bautista were selected for the Improvement Program.

Regarding this achievement, the Mayor of Juan Fernández, Pablo Manríquez, emphasized, “We are very happy as a municipality, as we have received the news that we are part of the ‘Upgrade’ program of the ‘Best Tourism Village,’ for specific recognitions, such as being a fishing cove with over 130 years of sustainable economic activity and being the second-largest Marine Protected Area in all of the Americas.”
